Task Description :

LN to ITU WP5B in regards with the Recommendation ITU-R.M 2092-1: Consider future development of VDES.

LN to IEC and IMO on VDES topics.

Objectives of the task :
  • Get ITU-R M.2092-1 to include IALA recommended amendments.
  • Propose to IMO potential useful use cases of VDES.
  • Liaise with IEC on VDES equipment standards
  • Inform the other organisations about advances in guidelines, standards and recommendations

Compelling need :

ITU, IMO and IEC together with IALA form the platform to change maritime communications. Each of them alone cannot change anything. As IALA DTEC is the think-tank for VDES, it is our obligation to to liaise with the other organizations on our advances in this new technology.

DTEC3: A WP5B input was prepared to be submitted by the US, the council was asked to co-sign IALA.

DTEC4: WP5B has after DTEC3 incorporated all proposed changes and continues to work on the revision of ITU-R M.2092-1; IEC is continuing their work on an equipment standard for VDES mobile equipment, and IMO is finalizing the work on a first version of a VDES performance standard.
